General Information about Malabo, Bata, and Oyala

Malabo is the capital of Equatorial Guinea, located on the northern coast of Bioko Island on the rim of a sunken volcano. It is also is the commercial and financial center of Equatorial Guinea. Malabo's economy is based on administration and other services. Trade is also one of the most prominent and important economic activities, especially since the arrival of companies from the United States which exploited the oil wells near the coast. This trade is also given by the presence of other Americans, Latin Americans, Nigerians, Cameroonians, Spanish and other citizens of the countries of Central Africa to increase trade activities.

Bata is a port city in the Litoral Province of Equatorial Guinea. It was the largest city in Equatorial Guinea. It lies on the Atlantic Ocean coast of Río Muni. Bata was formerly the capital of Equatorial Guinea and is a transport hub and port, from which ferries sail to Malabo and Douala, while fliers can land at Bata Airport. Bata is also known for its nightlife and market.

Oyala is a city that is being built to be the future capital of Equatorial Guinea, replacing the city of Malabo. The planned city's location was chosen for its easy access and benign climate. It is located in Wele-Nzas Province, near the town of Mengomeyén. Designed by Portuguese studio for architecture and urbanism FAT – Future Architecture Thinking, it is projected to have around 200,000 inhabitants, a new Congress building, a number of presidential villas, and an area of 8150 hectares.
